The girls’ soccer 2022 season has started off strong with an amazing pre-season. They beat Oakland for the first time with a 3-0 score continued with a 5-1 win against Stewart’s Creek. The Lady Tigers officially opened their season with a match against Rockvale, which they also won. They cranked out another win against Lawrence County, but, unfortunately, had their first lost against Hutchinson Private School. In a interview with Coach Bennett, he said, “Over all, play has been very exciting.” The team seems to be starting off strong, and things are looking good for them.
In this same interview, Coach Bennett said everyone has done great things so far this season, but, unfortunately, he only had time to specifically mention a few. To start off, Shelby Clark and Rose Drowota, two senior captains, have done great in games. Coach Bennet even described them as “key defense”. Next was sophomore, Avery Stojakovich, who he described as “dynamite” everywhere on the field. He also said Julia Ann Hamilton, a forward, was a “very intimidating presence” on the field. To end it off, he said that McKayla Nolan, who plays mid field, helps transition the ball back and forth, which as he described as “the strength of the team.”
While talking about the future of this season, Coach Bennet said that he feels the team is, “Just as strong as last year.” Their main goal is to go back to State Championship like they did last year. They also are expecting Page, a team in the district they are in, to be a team they will have to play during the championship but hope to beat them this year. This season is still going strong, so make sure to go support our girls’ soccer team at their next home game on Tuesday September 6th, and wish them good luck for a great rest of the season.
